Pool Compliance in Queensland

The certificate

Queensland pools are certified with a Form 23 Pool Safety Certificate, issued by a licensed Pool Safety Inspector after inspection against the QDC MP 3.4 pool safety standard. Non-compliant pools receive a Form 26 Non-Conformity Notice setting out what must be fixed and by when.

Validity

Certificates last one year for shared pools (hotels, strata, complexes) and two years for non-shared pools. We track your expiry date and contact you before it lapses.

When it is required

A valid certificate is required when selling or leasing a property with a pool or spa. New pools and spas need certification at handover. The pool must also be registered on the QBCC Pool Safety Register.

Statewide, from Cairns to the Gold Coast: Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Toowoomba, Wide Bay, Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville. Regional trips are batched by week, so book ahead of deadlines where you can.

Barriers, gates and latches

• Effective barrier height of at least 1200mm, measured from finished ground level outside the barrier
• No gaps greater than 100mm under or between panels, and no footholds or handholds that make the fence climbable
• Gates that self-close and self-latch from any position, opening outward away from the pool
• Latch release at least 1500mm above ground, or properly shielded where lower
• Boundary fences used as part of the barrier, including height and the non-climbable zone on the inside face

Around the pool and the building

• The 900mm non-climbable zone outside the barrier: pot plants, furniture, BBQs, trees and anything else a child could climb
• Doors, windows and balconies that open into the pool area, direct door access is not permitted under the QLD standard
• Decks, steps and retaining walls that change the barrier's effective height
• A compliant CPR sign, visible and in good condition
• Registration of the pool on the QBCC Pool Safety Register

Inspection & certificate

$350. Full compliance assessment, digital inspection report, and the certificate issued and lodged where the pool is compliant.

Re-inspection

$190. Re-check of the specific items listed on your non-compliance report once they are fixed, not a second full inspection fee.
